If you run a pet business, you’re probably passionate about animals—and maybe a little frustrated by online marketing. Over the years working with pet businesses, I’ve seen how common digital marketing myths can hold you back from reaching the pet owners who need your services most.

Let’s bust some of the most persistent myths I hear from pet professionals.

Myth 1: Just Having a Website Is Enough

Launching a website is a great first step, but it’s only the beginning. For pet owners to actually find you, your website needs to be optimized for search engines (SEO), mobile-friendly, and regularly updated with helpful content. If there’s nothing new, pet owners have no reason to return—and repeat visits are what build trust and loyalty. A regularly updated blog (at least once a week!) can keep your audience engaged and coming back for more.

Myth 2: More Website Visitors Means More Customers

It’s not about the number of visitors—it’s about the right visitors. A thousand clicks don’t matter if none of those people become loyal clients. The key is clear calls-to-action and content that speaks directly to your ideal customer. Sometimes, you’ll have fewer visitors, but more of them will actually book your services or buy your products. That’s a win.

Myth 3: If My Competition Isn’t Doing Digital Marketing, I Don’t Need To

This is a huge missed opportunity. Digital marketing gives you a chance to connect with pet owners your competitors aren’t even talking to. In today’s competitive market, every new customer counts. Don’t wait for your competitors to catch up—lead the pack instead.

Myth 4: Posting on Social Media Is Enough

Social media is powerful, but it’s only effective with a real strategy and genuine engagement. Simply racking up followers won’t help your business if those followers don’t become paying customers. Focus on building relationships and providing value, not just posting for the sake of posting.

As someone who combines a background in psychology with years of SEO and content writing for pet businesses, I help my clients cut through these myths and focus on what truly works. When you invest in the right digital marketing strategies, you’ll attract more of the clients who matter—because tire kickers don’t pay the rent. Check out my services for suggestions.
